Are You Living with a Passionate Pursuit?

May 15, 2024

Life is like a grand adventure, full of twists and turns. It includes some good times and some very difficult and challenging times, allowing us an opportunity to grow through them. I believe that each of us were created for a life of adventure…a passionate pursuit. Not just to “fall” into a default career path that pays the bills as I did years ago.

Deep down, we all crave adventure and meaning, yearning to make a difference in the world around us.  Are you living yours?

Mark Twain said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

Although “adventure”  will look different for each person, and likely will not as we see in the action movies, we were wired for this. And regardless what shape it may take for you, it will likely involve meaningful service to others.  Each of us were created for this, which is why we are told that “…it is better to give than receive.” (Acts 20:35)

As a Christian, holding a biblical worldview, I believe that God has a special plan for each of us (Jeremiah 29:11), one that gives our lives meaning and purpose, and we should put in the effort to seek to find out what that may mean for us.

From the very start, God crafted us with care and intention, shaping us to live lives that matter. Not just lives that involve simply surviving – eating, sleeping, and breathing, going through motions for a 40 year work career only to retire and expire.

The Bible reminds us that we are wonderfully made by God, designed for a life of purpose and significance. This purpose goes beyond just getting by; it’s about passionately pursuing what matters most to God and His eternal kingdom.

However, in a world filled with distractions, temptations, pressures and stress, it’s easy to lose sight of our purpose. When we don’t have a clear sense of direction, we may turn to temporary pleasures or unhealthy habits to fill the void that we were created for. I know, I’ve done that, and it got me in trouble years ago. Whether it’s chasing after money, fame, or fleeting pleasures, these pursuits only leave us feeling empty and unsatisfied in the end.

But when we commit ourselves to God’s plan for our lives, seeking to live a life that matters – a life of impact in other’s lives - something amazing happens. We discover a sense of fulfillment and joy that goes beyond anything the world has to offer. By living out our faith through acts of service, sharing the good news with others, and using our talents and career to honor God, our lives take on new meaning and purpose, and so does our work.

Are you ready to embrace the adventure of living for God, knowing that true fulfillment comes from following His plan for our lives? I hope so. Let’s steer clear of the traps of aimlessness and addictions to things that don’t serve us or others well, and instead, boldly pursue the meaningful life that God has in store for each of us.

It may mean making some changes, but if you are willing to to do so, you are in for an adventurous, rewarding and fulfilling life of impact. =)
