Are You Making Meaningful Progress or Just Busy?

Apr 16, 2024

Ever feel like you're always running hard, but at the end of the day, you're left wondering what you've actually accomplished that’s meaningful?

That's the thing about being busy – it doesn't always mean you're getting stuff done. Some folks are constantly on the move, but they're not really getting anywhere. I know, I’ve been there.

Think about it: our days are packed with little tasks that seem important in the moment, like replying to every message ASAP or keeping our desks super neat. But when you look back, do these things really help us reach our big goals?

Here's a story that hits the nail on the head:

There was a guy chopping down trees. At first, he was cutting down ten trees a day and feeling pretty good about it. But as time went on, even though he was working harder, he started chopping down fewer trees each day. He couldn't figure out why until an old-timer asked him when was the last time he sharpened his axe.

Turns out, he'd been so busy chopping trees that he forgot to take a breather and sharpen his axe to make the job easier and more productive.

Sound familiar?

Sometimes we're so wrapped up in doing stuff that we forget to stop and ask ourselves if we're doing the right stuff.

We need to focus on the big picture and spend our time on things that really move us forward towards our goals, not just keep us feeling good about being busy.

It's not about how jam-packed our schedules are; it's about whether our hard work is actually taking us where we want to go.

Let's not get fooled by all the little things that demand our attention. It's time to prioritize tasks that help us grow and reach our dreams. Being busy isn't the same as being successful. So instead of just being busy for the sake of it, let's make sure we're busy doing the right things.

Remember, a calendar full of appointments doesn't equal a life full of purpose.
